Tafseer of: 'Allah is the Light of the heavens.. by Shaykh Bin Baaz
haykh 'Abdul-'Azeez Ibn Baaz
Question : We would like from your eminence , the tafseer (explanation) of His , The Exalted statement : 'Allaah is the Light of the heavens and the earth..' 1 Answer : The meaning of this Noble verse , as explained by the scholars is that : Allaah is the One who is Illuminated and the one who illuminates. So all the light in the heavens and the earth , and the light on the Day of Judgement ; all of them are from the light of The Exalted One. And there are two types of lights : (first) The Created Light : and this is what is present in the world and the hereafter , and in the Paradise , and what is with the people right now from the light of the sun and the moon , and also the light of electricity, and the fire : all of these are created and are from the creation of The One free from All Defects , The Most Exalted. As for the second type of light : this is The Uncreated Light. And it is from His attributes , The One free from All Defects , The Most Exalted. And Allaah The One free from All Defects , The Most Praiseworthy : In All his attributes , He is The Creator. And there is nothing of his attributes that is created. And , Light is His Face ; The Most Mighty , The Possesor of Majesty. And light is His essence ; The One free from All Defects , The Most Exalted. And all of these are uncreated , rather they are among His attributes . The Most Mighty , The Possesor of Majesty And this Supreme Light (in the verse) : Allaah The One free from All Defects has described it with Himself . And it is NOT created , rather it is from His attributes . Just like His attributes of Hearing , His sight , His hand , His feet , and other than these from the Supreme attributes of His , The One free from All Defects , The Most Exalted. And this is the truth in which Ahlus-Sunnah wal jama'ah (salafiyyah) is based on. [ i.e the Attributes of Allaah are not created , and the attributes of Allaah have no similitude.] Shaykh-ul-Islaam `Abdul-`Azeez Bin Baz Footnotes: [1] Suratu Nur : 35 Source : http://www.binbaz.org.sa/index.php?p...=fatawa&id=249 Translation by : Aboo Waheeda as-Salafee
