How to Memorize the Qur'an. Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah)

Question :

I want to memorize the Qur'aan but I do not know the method to observe in memorizing the Noble Qur'aan, may Allah reward you.

Answer :

The method that a person observes in order to memorize the Qur'aan differs based on the person's condition and on the condition of the teacher who listens to him reciting. There are various methods; from them is the person memorizes five verses and does not move on until after he has mastered memorizing them completely. Another method is to memorize one complete page and then to review it. The important thing is that the person sticks to memorizing the Qur'aan what is suitable for him to memorize while still holding fast to constant review because the Prophet (the peace & blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) said: {Review your memorization of the Qur'aan for I swear by the One whose Hand contains my soul it escapes the intellect faster than a running camel.}[1]
Reviewing the Qur'aan is done by reading alone to one's self and can also be done by way of mutual participation where one colleague memorizes and the other colleague checks his memorization by viewing from the Mushaf (a copy of the Qur'aan) while he recites, then they switch and do the opposite. The important thing is that these matters are not taken from a specific text but based upon the circumstance of the person.
